Re: Michael Owen
I recorded the game and watched parts when I got home - Owen's bias was most clearly shown when McGeady made the second foul leading to him being sent off. Owen says "oh no"!

Yes. I never understand the similar classic "He's hit that well. Almost too well".

Sorry? How you can hit a ball too well?

I think the discussion amongst the standing-up long coat wearing people was that it was in no way a foul BUT if it's mistakenly given then it was in the box and a penalty.

The ref bottled it completely by upholding the linesman's better view but then making it a non-pivotal ruling. Funnily enough it was a piece of improvisation that seemed fair. He stumbled into a instance of intelligent refereeing that was utterly outside the laws of the game.

'Another classic Owenism from last night - "Nolan did everything right with that, he just overhit it".'

Reminds me of a classic from Seve when interviewed at the Open. Having chipped the ball into the long grass 25 yards behind the 18th green from about 80 yards with a good lie on the fairway he explained, 'I hit a good shot, but unfortunately caught it too well and it went through the green'.

claret i heard that too, stones was literally spread eagled with all four limbs going in different directions!

Re: Michael Owen
I enjoyed how Owen defended their handball by saying his arm wasn't in an unnatural position despite it being above his head, then when a handball was given against Carroll after their keeper spilled a shot and it hit Carroll's hand which was by his side, Owen said it definitely was a hand ball!
For such a talent, his lack of footballing knowledge really lets him down.

darke should stick to boxing.

Re: Michael Owen
And as for the experts after the match talking about the penalty incidents, am I watching a different game or something, as surely the Everton one was a blatant dive anyway, as he just ran towards Tomkins leg and flopped on the floor?

Oh well, fuck em all as we're in the next round.

Who was his co-commentator?

That cunt was just as bad, though maybe it was just him arse kissing to Owen.

Re: Michael Owen
Nowhere near as biased as Tony Gale is toward us when commentating. Gawd bless 'im.

Re: Michael Owen
When we beat City all he kept going on about when Sakho scored was how it was almost a brilliant save by Hart, no mention of what a great header it was from Diafra.

Never says anything original, boring and bias.

At one stage while we were 1-0 up I was thinking he was showing a little bias but gradually he evened up. Mind you he is f*cking boring and very often wrong...
